Light of a thousand suns

DSC_0349

No, I am not dead.  Nor was I abducted by aliens, although judging from the light pouring out of my closet you would not be surprised to hear that had happened.

Clearly, there were some roadblocks in between starting painting!  And getting the light.  I went ‘round and ‘round trying to decide what I wanted to do, and in the end, put up a fixture that had been given to me by a neighbor.

It is super cute!  At first I worried it would be too big, but it’s not.  I do think I need to either put in a dimmer switch, or some lower wattage bulbs because lawdy…it’s blinding.  You could do surgery in that sucker.  So, in the immediate future I need to soften the light, and get some sweet shades on that baby.  I think orange would be super funky.

Promise it wont be months.

Paint done!

I am not giving up on this project, despite the slow progress!  It's been quite difficult to find time to paint, but I am done (at least the coat..still need some touch ups.)  I am now trying to find a good light..would love a small chandelier but don't want to spend alot of money.  I have one, that was a trash-to-treasure, and am really thinking of using it.

Will let you know!

industrious justice: Recipe: One Minute Mug Brownie

industrious justice: Recipe: One Minute Mug Brownie

Takin' one for the team.  Saw this on Pinterest tonight, and just **bam** tried it.  Did it for you, my reader.  And oh yes.  It was good.  I added a tiny extra bit of salt, cuz I like my brownies to have just a slight hint of salt.  Easy...good.  Passes the test.

Hello...hello...anybody there?

Hello dear reader...I think there is one, anyway.  I have not forgotten my project, and left a half painted closet never to be completed.  Let's just say April kicked my behind.  How did Easter become the new Christmas?  Argh.  In addition, it is impossible for me to paint when Claire is around.  Child wants to get into everything messy and I am not about to let her dig into a half gallon of blue paint.  So, I have had two occasions to get in there and get some stuff done.  I have almost finished the paint.  A few touch ups and it will be done.  However, sadly I must admit, it's been so long since I looked at my inspiration picture that I can't remember what else I had planned on doing!

I do want to put a light in there, so I need to figure out what kind.  If I can find a chandelier small enough, I think that would be really whimsical, and who doesn't need a little more whimsy?  I also think some hooks on the wall would be a good idea.  Again, it's been shamefully long since I've looked at my plan.

Once it's painted, though, I can work on it more often since hanging hooks and lights will be much less appealing to Claire.  My goal date for having it done is May 31st!  I'm also excited about starting a new project but am not going to let myself decide on one until this one is finished.  More motivation.

Paint

DSC_0960

I finally got all of the hardware off, and got everything out of the closet.  I had some blue paint leftover from painting the boys’ room and think it works great for this project.  I tried painting the other day while all the kids were home and well, that did not work so great.  Duncan wanted to help, and Claire is like a moth to a flame where potential mess is concerned.  I am hoping to get the painting done this week, however, since I’m down at least one kid.

I think I need a light fixture and am going to look for a very small chandelier.  I also need to cover up the spots on the door frame where the hardware was.

Alarming Pace

Things are moving at an alarming rate.  You might not be able to keep up.  I (read:  my husband) got the door off the hinges, and the only things left to relocate are a lonely, sad snowman, a small heart-shaped block, a birthday wreath and a few miscellaneous stationery items.

What about that wire rack at the top?  I am contemplating taking it down because 1) it lacks the aesthetic I am going for and 2) I might put it somewhere else.

I have also decided that I will need a light source.  There are hall lights, but the closet itself is dark.  A tiny chandelier would be awfully sweet.

Goal for the week:  Completely empty, shelf gone, possibly painted.

Closet Redo–Slow and Steady Wins the Race

DSC_0798
So, you are saying, “that’s all she’s done?”  Yes.  I still cannot get the bottom bolt out of the door and that is my big obstacle.  However, I have found new homes for my table cloths that I never use, my flag corps uniform and letter jacket from high school, and my stash of gift bags.  I am still looking for places to store other random items.

These are a birthday wreath that I made with my own two hands in MOPS, a blank address book that I intend to gift one day, now that no one but my mom uses address books anymore, and a stash of small children’s scrap book thingies I picked up on the clearance aisle at Target a few years ago with good intentions.  Good thing I kept them.

These are the Christmas decorating orphans, along with a few others.   A broken light sabre that I am trying to hide from the boys, a curtain rod that has no brackets, and a framed counted cross stich of the nativity that I made years ago.
I found a can of pretty blue paint in the garage that I think I will use for the inside.  Goal?  To get that dang bolt out and finish getting the closet cleaned out by Wednesday.
